Džeri Buttimer je izabran u Dáil Éireann februara 2011. godine, što predstavlja predstavljajući biračko telo Cork South Central. Zamenik Buttimer je prvi otvoreni gej član Fine Gael-a i osnivač LGBT ogranka njegove stranke. Jedan od 6 članova te partije u irskom parlamentu. Bio je član ustavne konvencije koja je zagovarala održavanje referenduma bračne ravnopravnosti Irske i učestvovao u Upravnom odboru FG referendumske kampanje za bračnu jednakost i ravnopravnost.
Van politike, Buttimer je aktivno uključen u svojoj lokalnoj zajednici. Uručena mu je nagrada Nacionalnog komiteta za marketing.
Jerry Buttimer was elected to Dáil Éireann in February, 2011 representing the constituency of Cork South Central. Deputy Buttimer was appointed as Chairperson of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health and Children in July 2011. Prior to his election to Dáil Éireann Deputy Buttimer served as a Senator, having been elected in July 2007, and was a member of Cork City Council from 2004 to 2007.
Under Deputy Buttimer’s stewardship the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health and Children has examined a number of high profile policy issues. In January 2013 he successfully led three days of hearings into the contentious issue of the termination of pregnancy facilitating debate and discussion between a diverse range of opinions. Following a series of meetings on the issue of the misuse of alcohol and other drugs the Committee has presented a suite of options to Government for its consideration. Deputy Buttimer has also led the Committee’s consultation process on the proposed Children First Bill which will put in place a statutory framework to protect children and combat child abuse and neglect.
Deputy Buttimer was the first openly gay member of Fine Gael and founder of his party’s Lgbt group. One of 6 members of Irish parliament. He was a member of the constitutional convention which advocated the holding of Ireland’s marriage equality referendum and participated on steering Committee of FG marriage equality referendum campaign and in gender recognition bill
Outside of representative politics Deputy Buttimer is actively involved in his local community and the GAA. Deputy Buttimer served on the GAA National Marketing Committee, as well as Chairman of his local Bishopstown GAA Club.
